Playing the Game

  1. Have all the students stand.
  2. Choose one student and think about the attributes which describe this student.
  3. Begin giving clues such as: “The person I am thinking of is not wearing long pants.” (All students wearing long pants sit down.) “The person I am thinking of does not have words on his/her shirt.” (Those with words sit down.)
  4. Continue the game until one student is standing. Discuss how this person fits all of the criteria (e.g., short pants, no words on shirt, etc.).
  5. Model the game several times and then have students take turns being the describer.

Variation

  • When giving clues, use rich descriptive language such as: “This person has eyes as blue as the sky.” and “This person has a shirt as green as grass with stripes the colour of strawberries.” In this case, students can guess after each clue is given. Have the selected student stand and review the clues (e.g., “Does this person have eyes as blue as the sky?” “Is this person wearing a shirt as green as grass with stripes the colour of strawberries?”). Reaffirm that this person fits the criteria.
