Media Texts

Literacy Place for the Early Years recognizes the needs of students in the 21st Century. They require everyday reading with a wide variety of real-world texts that they will see and use in their daily lives. Media texts such as brochures, flyers, comics, recipes, magazine stories, placemats, posters, guides, maps, articles, and journals are provided to meet these literacy needs.

Conducting Shared Reading and Small-Group Shared Reading with media texts allows you to explore with your students the features of a variety of text types in realistic formats. You help students to negotiate new text and visual features to enhance their comprehension. This, in turn, prepares students to read and comprehend similar texts on their own during Guided and Independent Reading.

Media texts in Literacy Place for the Early Years are printed on Polyart®, a unique synthetic paper that gives our media texts the look and feel of the real thing. Polyart is highly durable—resistant to spills and tearing—and can withstand years of classroom use. Polyart is also easy on the environment (non-toxic and recyclable). Please note that lamination will harm the material.
