They require everyday reading with a wide variety of real-world texts<br>that they will see and use in their daily lives. Media texts such as brochures, flyers,<br>photo essays, comics, postcards, invitations, magazine stories and articles, posters,<br>guides, and scrapbook pages are provided to meet these literacy needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><br>Conducting Shared Reading and Guided Reading with media texts allows students<br>to explore the features of a variety of text types in realistic formats. Students learn<br>to negotiate new text and visual features to enhance their comprehension. This, in<br>turn, prepares students to read and comprehend similar texts on their own during<br>Independent Reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><br>Media texts in <em>Literacy Place for the Early Years<\/em> are printed on Polyart\u00ae, a unique<br>synthetic paper that gives our media texts the look and feel of the real thing.<br>Polyart is highly durable\u2014resistant to spills and tearing\u2014and can withstand<br>years of classroom use. Polyart is also easy on the environment (non-toxic and<br>recyclable).
