As the game is played, students use the language of socialization as they take turns, cooperate, and play together to find the matching compound words.<\/p>\n  <p><span class=\"Blue_hi-lite_noItalics\"><strong>Materials:<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"Blue_hi-lite\"><br>\n\t\t<\/span>&#8211; one copy of <a href=\"\/lpeyx-teaching-support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/pdfs\/grade-1\/pdfs\/oralanguagegames\/compound_concent_cards.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Compound Concentration Cards<\/a> for each pair of students <br>\n\t<span class=\"Blue_hi-lite_noItalics\"><strong>Grouping:<\/strong><\/span> partners<\/p>\n\t\t<h2 id=\"Playing_the_Game\"><span class=\"heading2\">Playing the Game<\/span> <\/h2>\n\t\t<ol>\n\t\t<li>Explain to students that the object of the game is to find the most pairs of compound words.<\/li>\n\t\t<li>Players turn cards face down in a random pattern.<\/li>\n\t\t<li>The first player turns over two cards. If the two cards can make a compound word (e.g., base + ball = baseball), the player keeps the pair of cards. If the two cards do not make a compound word, the player turns the cards face down in their original location.<\/li>\n\t\t<li>The next player turns over two cards and looks to see if a compound word can be made.<\/li>\n\t\t<li>Play continues until all of the cards have been used.<\/li>\n\t\t<li>The winner of the game is the one with the most cards or greatest number of compound words.<\/li>\n\t\t<\/ol>\n\t\t\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The game of Compound Concentration was designed to enhance students\u2019 knowledge of compound words.
