{"id":622,"date":"2021-10-08T13:39:06","date_gmt":"2021-10-08T17:39:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www3.scholastic.ca\/lpeyx-teaching-support\/?page_id=622"},"modified":"2022-03-01T16:29:51","modified_gmt":"2022-03-01T21:29:51","slug":"guess-who-i-see","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www3.scholastic.ca\/lpeyx-teaching-support\/grade-1\/oral-language-kit\/oral-language-games\/guess-who-i-see\/","title":{"rendered":"Guess Who I See"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div id=\"Section-One\" class=\"section\">\n\n\t<p>This game encourages students to use observational skills, to listen with focused attention, and to use descriptive language when stating attributes to describe another person.<span class=\"author\"><br>\n\t<\/span><\/p>\n\t<p><span class=\"Blue_hi-lite_noItalics\"><strong>Materials:<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"Blue_hi-lite\"><br>\n\t<\/span>&#8211; none <span class=\"Blue_hi-lite_noItalics\"><br>\n\t<strong>Grouping:<\/strong><\/span> whole class <\/p>\n\t<h2 id=\"Playing_the_Game\"> <span class=\"heading2\">Playing the Game<\/span>\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<ol>\n\t<li>Have all the students stand.<\/li>\n\t<li>Choose one student and think about the attributes which describe this student.<\/li>\n\t<li>Begin giving clues such as: \u201cThe person I am thinking of is not wearing long pants.\u201d (All students wearing long pants sit down.) \u201cThe person I am thinking of does not have words on his\/her shirt.\u201d (Those with words sit down.)<\/li>\n\t<li>Continue the game until one student is standing. Discuss how this person fits all of the criteria (e.g., short pants, no words on shirt, etc.).<\/li>\n\t<li>Model the game several times and then have students take turns being the describer.<\/li>\n\t<\/ol>\n\t<h3 id=\"Variation\"><span class=\"author\">Variation<\/span>\n\t<\/h3>\n\t<ul>\n\t<li>When giving clues, use rich descriptive language such as: \u201cThis person has eyes as blue as the sky.\u201d and \u201cThis person has a shirt as green as grass with stripes the colour of strawberries.\u201d In this case, students can guess after each clue is given. Have the selected student stand and review the clues (e.g., Does this person have eyes as blue as the sky?\u201d \u201cIs this person wearing a shirt as green as grass with stripes the colour of strawberries?\u201d).
