Reread or sing with them a version of the \u201cmake a difference\u201d song written out on chart paper.<br>\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<li><p class=\"speach-bubble left\">What did we learn about how \nwe can make a difference to \nthe environment? What actions \ncan we take? What differences \nwould these actions make?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tGather together and talk about the inquiry question \u201cHow can my actions make a difference?\u201d <br>\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<li>If time allows, have students create a poster display as a classroom reference for the various actions they can do to make a difference. Divide students into small groups and assign each group an action (e.g., pick up litter, bring reusable containers for drinks and lunches, turn off the lights when you leave a room). Provide a large piece of paper with the action text written at the top (or have students write this neatly themselves). Have each group work together to illustrate their action, and if possible, show how it can make a difference to the world. Display the groups\u2019 illustrations on a \u201cWe Can Make a Difference\u201d board.<br>\n\t\t\t<br>\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<\/ul><p><strong><i>What Can I Do?<\/i>\n\t\t\t<\/strong>[Self-monitoring]<\/p>\n\t\t\t<ul>\n\t\t\t<li><p class=\"speach-bubble left\">I want each of you to tell one other person something \nthat you do to help the world. I can say to you as a \nclass that \u2018I like the way you are using both sides of \nthe paper.\u2019 That tells me that you care for the world \nand don\u2019t want as many trees to be cut down to make \nmore paper. When you talk to your partner, you might \nlike to start your sentence with \u2018I can\u2026.\u2019 Think about \nwhat you have learned about helping to save energy, \nreduce waste, and make the world cleaner and safer. \nWhat can you do?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tAsk students to talk with a partner or in a small group and think of one thing that they can do to help make a difference to the environment. You may wish to use a sentence starter such as \u2018I can\u2026\u2019 that you place in the pocket chart.
