Connect to your personal experiences of the change of weather from the previous day, week, or even month. \n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<li>Briefly discuss what changes we see outdoors over the course of a day, from day to day, and from season to season. \n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\n<\/div><div id=\"Section-Two\" class=\"section\">\n\n<h3 id=\"CONNECTING_WITH_PERSONAL_EXPERIENCES\">CONNECTING WITH PERSONAL EXPERIENCES<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<ul>\n<li><p class=\"speach-bubble left\">This morning, I had to really think about what to wear\nto come to school. Fall days can be warm one day and\nvery cool the next! I decided I had better wear a light\njacket and then, seeing lots of grey clouds, brought\nalong my umbrella\u2014just in case! I know winter\nway and soon I will need my heavy coat and boots!<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tModel a personal experience of how you adapt your outerwear according to the weather conditions, and then invite the students to share their own personal experiences doing so. [Making connections]\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<ul><li>Ask students to turn and talk with a partner about the outerwear they wore to school today and why they wore or brought those particular items. Have a few students share with the group. Offer prompts to stimulate oral discussion:\n\t\t\t<ul>\n\t\t\t<li>Why did you wear your boots today?<\/li>\n\t\t\t<li>I noticed you have a sweater in your backpack. Why?<\/li>\n\t\t\t<li>Some of you brought along a scarf and hat. Why? <\/li>\n\t\t\t<li>What kind of weather happened on [Saturday] night? (e.g., extreme weather watch, storms, high winds, lightning, snow, a blizzard, hail)\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<li>Invite students to draw a self-portrait showing appropriate dress for a season of their choice (spring, summer, fall, winter). Encourage students to title the picture with the season name and label the particular clothing needed for this type of weather.\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t<li>Circulate about the class as students create their pictures and ask them to talk about their chosen season and the clothing they are picturing. As students are adding titles and labels to their drawings, help students say words \u2018as slow as a snail&#8217; and record the sounds they hear.\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n<li><p class=\"speach-bubble left\">\nWhat season did you choose\nfor your drawing? Why\nwould you need that\nparticular piece of clothing?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tStudents can share their drawings with a partner. Have a few share with the whole group, either reading their text or describing their pictures. Keep the discussion focused on the topic.<\/li>\n\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t<p><strong>Teaching Tip: <\/strong> Display students&#8217; drawings on a bulletin board using the title \u201cHow do daily and seasonal changes affect living things?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\n<\/div><div id=\"Section-Three\" class=\"section\">\n\t\n<h3 id=\"INTRODUCING_THE_INQUIRY_QUESTION\">INTRODUCING THE INQUIRY QUESTION<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<ul>\n<li><p class=\"speach-bubble left\">In the next few days we are going to find out\nwhat kinds of changes happen in the world\naround us, and how these changes affect living\nthings, like plants, animals, and people.
